Splendour site under scrutiny

PETER Noble believes his beloved Bluesfest has always ticked all the right boxes.

He says the music festival had always been answerable to the community, had always been responsible and had always tried to do the right thing.

"There's a bigger issue going on in this shire right now and that's that the organisers of Splendour need to tick all the correct boxes and be answerable to the community," Mr Noble said.

"If Splendour can do this and show they can present a level of responsibility, then I think they should be able to hold a one-off event."

Last week Mr Noble sat through both days of the meetings called by the Planning and Assessment Commission, and he said everyone was "passionate".

The commission will have the final say on whether the North Byron Parklands site at Yelgun can play host to Splendour.

Asked whether he would consider hosting Splendour at the Bluesfest site, Mr Noble said: "Yes, they have called me and I would welcome their money.

"But there would have to be huge community consultation and Splendour organisers would have to prove to me that they could be responsible."

Splendour in the Grass town planner Steve Connelly said the Bluesfest site was not suitable as a long-term home for a variety of planning and operational reasons.
