THE EVANS Head Ocean Swim has secured a large local sponsor for this year's June event.
Evans Head Bowling Club will be the major sponsor for the local event and CEO Roger Hong is looking forward to it.
"We took on the sponsorship as it's a community event and it's in support of the local surf life saving club," he said.
"It will also bring people into Evans Head."
Being the CEO of the major sponsor, will Roger be entering himself into the swim?
"Do you want to see me drown?" he laughed.
"We might have a representative from the club who was a state swimmer but I'll have to talk him into it."
The first of the Ocean Swim Series held at Yamba was a great success, according to Evans Head Ocean Swim organiser Ray Adams.
"(It) was held at Yamba on Monday, January 2 in delightful, ocean swimming weather," he said.
"A total of 491 swimmers entered (295 male/196 female) either the 700 metre and/or 2km courses."
Mr Adams said entries were up on previous years, probably due to perfect weather conditions and popularity of the sport.
The second swim of the series is to be held at Coffs Harbour on Sunday, March 4, and then the countdown is on to the final swim at Evans Head on June 10 - where holiday packages will be drawn for eligible swimmers having swum the three swims.
Further details of the final two swims can be found at www.oceanswims.com.
