EMERGENCY services were run off their feet yesterday as wet weather was blamed for a string of accidents across the region.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to a multitude of relatively minor motor vehicle collisions.

A 21-year-old man was taken to Lismore Base Hospital with shoulder and chest injuries after being thrown from the rear seat of a car following a collision just south of Wardell about 9am yesterday.

An elderly couple were trapped in their vehicle on Tucki Rd at Wyrallah about 9.30am when their car left the road and crashed into waist-deep water.

Paramedics treated one passenger for a minor leg injury.

Inexperience was thought to be the cause of an incident shortly afterwards on The Coast Road at Skennars Head when a young man rolled his vehicle.

He sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

A 35-year-old man was taken to Ballina Hospital with neck injuries following a two-car collision on the Bruxner Highway at Uralba.

NSW Ambulance district manager, Inspector Greg Powell, warned drivers to slow down in the wet and drive to the conditions.

Richmond Tweed SES deputy controller Wayne Pettit said there were no flood warnings expected and crews had responded to a few roof leaks.

Andrew Winchester from the Bureau of Meteorology at Coffs Harbour said the current run of unsettled weather was a result of a broad low-pressure trough across much of the north-eastern parts of the State.

"The long-term forecast also shows the possibility of another inland trough moving across our region late in the weekend and into next week, with possibilities of more heavy falls," he said.

"This weekend shows signs of warming up a little, even if only by a few degrees."
