A rally to save koalas at Kings Forest is planned for Saturday.
A RALLY is planned at Kings Forest on Saturday to save the koala population on the development site.
Rally volunteer Menkit Prince said the protest was not organised by any one group, but grew organically from concerned residents.
"We are all very upset by the plan," Ms Prince said.
"We think it's too late to stop the development, but we can modify it to protect the Koala populations."
Ms Prince said there was a lot of concern from the community.
"We feel that it's very important to get together to let people know about the submission process and get an extension for public comment," she said.
Ms Prince said with about 140 koalas in the Tweed region everything needed to be done to save their habitat.
Northern Rivers Guardians president Michael McNamara said the lobby group supported the rally because the group's focus was on sustainable development in the region.
"We see Kings Forest as one of a number of developments in the region that is unsustainable," Mr McNamara said.
"It's just the one with all the focus at the moment because it's on public exhibition until December 23."
Mr McNamara said it was a complex application during the busy holiday period that included a koala management strategy so people needed more time to respond.
The rally will be held from 10am to noon (NSW) at the Kings Forest entrance, intersection of Old Bogangar Rd/Tweed Coast Rd.
