George jnr vying for Clarence

Tags: clarence valley, nationals, stuart george

CASINO will once again have a George as its local member if Richmond Valley councillor Stuart George has his way.

Mr George, the 39-year-old son of Lismore MP Thomas George, yesterday confirmed he would stand for Nationals preselection for the Clarence by-election, forced by the shock resignation last week of Steve Cansdell.

He is the latest in a string of Nationals members, including one who joined the party the day Mr Cansdell quit, lining up for preselection for the November by-election.

Mr George said he had long harboured an ambition to represent the region in Parliament.

If he won preselection and the subsequent election, Mr George said he would continue championing many of Mr Cansdell's causes, such as the Pacific Highway.
