Girl Guides Brooke and Gemma getting ready for their popular car wash fundraiser.
BALLINA Girl Guides will hold a community fête and car wash day to raise funds for the upkeep of the Guide Hall and for the Taronga Zoo Corroboree frog conservation.
The fête will be held on Sunday, August 28, at the Guide Hall on Swift Street, Ballina from 9am to 1pm.
It will include a ‘trash ‘n’ treasure’ stall, face painting, a jumping castle, plaster mold painting and a cake stall.
There will also be a Devonshire tea (and coffee) stand and a barbecue serving up bacon and egg sandwiches and sausage sizzles.
The guides will also be running their popular car wash service on the day ($10 for a 4WD vehicle and $7 for all other cars).
“A group of 13 older Guides are travelling to Sydney for a sleep-over at Taronga Zoo soon. The fête will raise funds for Taronga Zoo conservation projects which is part of the requirement for the sleep-over event,” district guide leader Fiona Cordiner said.
“It will also raise funds for the general upkeep and maintenance of the Guide Hall. With electricity bills spiralling out of control, we need all the funds we can just to keep up with this part of our expenditure. So come along and enjoy yourselves - and at the same time help raise funds for a fabulous community group.”
Ballina Girl Guides is a community service organisation offering girls aged five to 14 the chance to meet weekly and be involved in a range of activities including indoor fun (such as cooking, craft, games) and outdoor activities (camping, walks, litter picks).
Girls aged five to 10 meet on Thursdays from 5.30 to 7pm at the Guide Hall and older girls (aged 10 upwards) meet on Wednesdays from 4.30 to 6.30pm. Ballina Girl Guides Hall is also available for hire.
