Can a human run as fast as a dog?

THE annual man (or woman) against dog events will be run at the Lismore Greyhound Club TAB meeting at Colemans Point tonight.

Between the fourth and seventh races, Ballina Triathlon Club representatives will take on greyhounds in handicap races over 420m and 520m. They are always popular with spectators.

The Ballina Triathlon Club Sprinters Cup Final is the highlight of the greyhounds program. Grand Canyon, resuming from an injury-enforced let-up, was impressive in winning his heat for Matthew Reid in a tidy 24.32 seconds.

He’s drawn well in box one for the $4000-to-the-winner feature.

Pretty Malaika made it 13 wins at Lismore when she quickly found the lead and held off a determined Spring Casey to win her heat in 24.45s. She has drawn box three tonight with moderate beginner Robo Raptor drawn inside.

Bralyn Stripes, which has been consistent since her 24.22s win at Lismore on December 14, will also have admirers, as will the Joe Cotroneo-trained Spring Casey.

The first race is set to jump at 6.42pm.
