FOUR designs for a website aimed at helping youth deal with bullying behaviour will be showcased at a Freedom From Bullying Expo on Friday.
The website, titled bullybin.com.au – Binning the Bullying Behaviour, is being developed as part of the Northern Rivers Anti-Bullying Alliance’s (NRABA) Youthnet Project.
Youthnet was borne out of several anti-bullying forums held by the alliance last year and is a joint project between Lismore TAFE and the NRABA.
The Youthnet website is one of several aspects of the Expo at the Lismore Workers Club.
Youthnet Project member Luke Kane said the site would be temporarily accessible for youth to vote for their favourite design online.
Mr Kane, 22, said the website’s aim was to provide information and support to young people who had experience with bullying, either at school or in the workplace.
“The website is being built by youth for youth and is aimed at anyone between the ages of 15 and 24,” he said.
“It’s a resource that we hope will encourage discussion about bullying to encourage youth to become part of the solution to stop it.”
Mr Kane said he experienced workplace bullying in a previous job which forced him to eventually leave.
He said the experience had affected his confidence and self-esteem and his motivation to secure employment.
“I’m still feeling the negative effects of the bullying I experienced,” he said.
