A BALLINA doctor sustained serious lacerations to his upper leg while surfing at Lennox Head this morning.
Paramedics rushed to the beach after initial reports of a life-threatening lacerated femoral artery.
The doctor was stabilised and transferred to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition, undergoing surgery this afternoon.
He is believed to be in a satisfactory condition.
It is thought the doctor was surfing with a paramedic, though reports of who saved whom remain unclear at this stage.
