Tradies' search for love continues

THE tradies have dated their ladies, and the path of true love has run more smoothly for some than others.

Three people from the Northern Rivers who took part in the New Idea magazine contest to match tradesmen with their ideal women, have been away on their romantic weekend, with mixed results.

Byron Bay landscaper, Nick Tregonning, who The Northern Star featured in June, seems set to continue his bachelor ways.

He said the two ‘ladies’ he dated were both such ‘great girls’ he couldn’t choose between them.

“It’s a bit tough. They’re both awesome,” the 32-year-old charmer revealed.

“I don’t want to really choose one over the other, and I don’t want to break any hearts,” he said.

And anyway, he was moving to Melbourne ‘so I can’t think about anything romantic’, he said.

“But I am keeping in touch with both of them.”

Rosie Evans, a pre-school teacher from Mullumbimby, had a bit more luck with Coogee carpenter Chris Long.

Rosie, 26, spotted Chris’s smiling face and thought ‘he’s the one for me’. She was taken with his love for kids, cooking and country towns.

Chris liked the fact that Rosie was a country girl, ‘and she also looks like she’s up for anadventure’, he said.

The tradies met their dates in late July at Mantra on Salt Beach, Kingscliff, and were apparently ‘nervous but incredibly excited to finally meet the girls’, according to New Idea.

Chris and Rosie have been in contact every day since.

And Rosie recently travelled south for a reunion of the entrants – and a catch-up with Chris.

“We’ve joked about him moving up here, but I guess I’ll just keep grabbing these cheap flights to Sydney and see what happens,” she said.

Less romantic was the experience of Kylie Bott, 34, of East Ballina.

She had ‘a great time’, Kylie said, but the spark just wasn’t there for her date, paver Paul Morrissy of WA. He said he would keep in touch ‘but just as friends’.
