Farmer donates to rescue group

GOONENGERRY farmer Gary Cromwell will donate a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of his farm to the Mullumbimby-based Rainforest Rescue.

The donation is an acknowledgment of the importance of the organisation’s work on his Mill Road property, Mr Cromwell said.

“They helped us regenerate our property and I wanted to acknowledge their contribution,” he said.

The biodiverse 25-hectare property is a wildlife corridor to nearby forests.

Mr Cromwell said he hoped the donation would motivate potential purchasers to look at what had been achieved on the property.

Rainforest Rescue chief executive Kelvin Davies said the organisation had planted more than 100,000 trees on the Northern Rivers.

“Our projects re-establish rainforests through planting, maintenance and restoration programs, as well as purchasing and protecting high conservation value rainforest and preserving biodiversity,” Mr Davies said.

The real estate agents selling the property, Unique Estate and George and Fuhrmann Bangalow, will also donate money to Rainforest Rescue when the property sells.

Rainforest Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation that has been protecting and restoring rainforests in Australia and overseas since 1998.

The organisation is currently involved in rainforest projects in Ecuador, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and a number of projects in Australia.

The organisation is also partner for the Big Scrub Restoration Project.
