KYOGLE High School has been eliminated from rugby league’s Buckley Shield after going down to Singleton High 26-8 yesterday.
It’s a long journey to Singleton and an even longer journey home when you don’t win but manager Jason McKee and his young troop aren’t too disappointed.
After all, they made it into the final eight in the State.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for a little school of 400-odd students,” McKee said.
Singleton was always going to be a big ask for the Kyogle kids and while the Brolgas didn’t play their best footy, the Reds were hard to geta handle on.
“They had one kid who was an obvious standout,” McKee said.
“We knew he was the one we had to stop but we didn’t manage to stop him and he scored three of their five tries.”
Singleton now pushes on to the semi-final stage where they will face Bass High School from Sydney’s south-west.
“Singleton won’t win it,” McKee said.
“They are in for a big surprise when they meet Bass.”
All the boys in the Kyogle High team will now turn their attention to the Group One junior competition, where they play Under-14s for the Kyogle Turkeys.
