AN ALLEGED would-be thief was nabbed by police after leaving behind a bag containing personal items at the scene of his crime in Lismore last Friday night.
Richmond Local Area Command police arrested and charged the 34-year-old man from Spring Hill, Queensland, with break, enter and steal from a Girards Hill residence.
The alleged thief made off with a bag full of bounty, including a HP laptop computer, a Sony Handycam, a mobile phone, aftershave, a leather wallet, car keys, expired licences, deodorant, six ladies silver rings, a quartz watch, a silver bracelet, a silver necklace and some loose change.
However, in his haste to leave the scene police said the robber left behind some personal effects which helped lead to his identification.
Later in the night, police were called to a Lismore hotel where the alleged thief was staying and apprehended him.
The hotel management allegedly had been tipped off by another member of the public who said they had seen the alleged offender with bags containing the stolen goods.
Meanwhile, three 14-year-old boys have been charged with stealing from a dwelling and stealing from a motor vehicle for an alleged theft on Saturday at Goonellabah.
Police said the theft occurred between midday and 7.30pm at a residence in Kookaburra Terrace, with items stolen including a handbag, camera, two sets of keys, cash and a number of personal items.
The three teenagers were chased by a witness who caught and detained one of the boys until Lismore police arrived.
