Splendid time at Splendour

THE crowd went into overdrive at Splendour in the Grass on Saturday night when American indie rock legends, The Strokes, took to the Amphitheatre stage.

Lucy Smith and Joseph Hodges, of Brisbane, made the trip to Splendour in the Grass at Woodford.

THINGS can get a bit wild when 32,000 music fans are thrown together in one place at the one time.

Especially when some of the best bands in the world are on the menu.

The crowd went into overdrive at Splendour in the Grass on Saturday night when American indie rock legends, The Strokes, took to the Amphitheatre stage.

Thousands sang along as lead singer Julian Casablancas stumbled around as he belted out classics like Last Night, Someday and New York City Cops.

Nick Drummond, of Adelaide, said The Strokes set was the best gig he had ever been to.

“The Strokes were awesome,” he said.

“I wasn’t actually expecting too much from them, but they completely killed it.

“The crowd went berserk when they played Last Night – it was like 32,000 people were singing along with Casablancas.

“A lot of people tried to crowd surf, but security stopped them.”

Ben Harper was ‘all cool’ for Siobhan O’Reilly, of Byron Bay.

Harper headlined the Amphitheatre stage on Friday night.

“He didn’t play with Relentless7, but it didn’t matter, he was so beautiful,” Ms O’Reilly said.

“He played with a backing orchestra and played all of his old songs, like Gold, so it was perfect.

“But I think the highlight was when he sang Precious Heart, with the drummer from INXS, Jon Farriss.”

Splendour in the Grass wrapped-up last night.
