Ecstacy bust at Lennox Head

A 28-year-old man allegedly involved in dealing prohibited drugs was arrested by police at a Lennox Head motel yesterday afternoon.

In June, the Richmond Local Area Command Drug Unit started Operation Jill, to investigate the large commercial supply of cocaine and other drugs in the Ballina area.

As a result of the investigation, the 28-year-old man was identified as allegedly being involved in the supply of prohibited drugs.

When the man was arrested, with the assistance of a drug detection dog, he allegedly possesses 458g of MDMA (ecstacy) powder and a large amount of cash which police will allege was the proceeds of crime.

Police estimate the potential street value of the powder was more than $100,000.

The man was charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, possessing a prohibited drug, and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

His bail was refused and he is expected to appear in Lismore Local Court today.

In an unrelated matter, two men will appear in court today after being charged over an overnight armed robbery at a shop in Tweed Heads.

About 7pm yesterday two men, who had their faces covered with stockings, entered a shop on Wharf Street.

One of the men was armed with a knife when the duo allegedly threatened two women and one man in the store.

The 42-year-old man was assaulted and knocked to the ground before the two offenders stole a quantity of cash and controlled drugs.

The injured man was later treated at the Tweed Hospital receiving several sutures in his mouth for lacerations.

Both men fled on foot.

With the assistance of a police dog and handler from Queensland Police the NSW Police Force investigators attended a room at a nearby motel while forensic experts examined the crime scene.

Two men were arrested at the motel without incident and officers seized a quantity of cash, drugs and clothing which police will allege relate to the robbery.

A 31-year-old man and a 24-year-old, both from Wollongong, were charged with assault with intent to rob and robbery while armed or in company.

Both men have been refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today.
