Fashion designer mum dashes home

No place like home: Lismore fashion designer Mia Brennan was mixing it with the stars at fashion week in Sydney one day and the next selling her label at The Channon markets.

FRESH from a whirlwind of air kisses and couture at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, Lismore fashion designer Mia Brennan reckons ‘there’s no place like home’.

The Lismore mum, who rushed home from Fashion Week on Saturday night to prepare for The Channon markets at dawn, said she enjoyed showing her Mimi Designs label to the local market crowd as much as the Sydney fashion elite.

“I learned something about myself. I thought I wanted to be in Sydney, but when I was surrounded by my partner and daughters on Mother’s Day at The Channon in the sunshine, I thought, this is where I want to be,” Ms Brennan said.

Mimi Designs was among 12 emerging labels on display to international and Australian buyers at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Ms Brennan’s creations were spring-boarded on to the Sydney stage after she won last year’s Byron Bay Voyeur Fashion Designer of The Year Award.

“It was great to be around other emerging designers my age and network. It was really useful and daunting to be critiqued,” she said.
