Steve Strong
IN AN ERA often accused of reducing the fine art of debate to one-liners, worms, winners and losers, one man hopes to revive the free exchange of ideas at his inaugural Socrates Cafe in Alstonville today.
Socrates Cafe is the brainchild of local teacher, historian and writer, Steve Strong, who hopes to inspire local thinkers to come along on a regular basis to Amaze ’n’ Place cafe in Wardell Road for Socratic dialogues to gain a better understanding of human nature.
“Everyone has something worthwhile to say. It’s not about getting the right answer but asking the right questions and allowing each other to come to their own realisations,” he said.
“These days we tend to arrive at debates with a preset agenda and no one learns anything that way.”
