MATT PASCOE annihilated the opposition to win the New South Wales V8 Dirt Modified Championship at Lismore Speedway on Saturday night.

Pascoe turned in a flawless performance to round off a dominant night, having breezed through his heats with an impeccable winning record.

Kevin Britten came from position six to finish second in the State title, while an equally strong performance was turned in by Tony Sneddon, who came third after he started out of position nine.

Pascoe is also one of the leading super sedan drivers in the country and came to Lismore fresh from his recent success in the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.

The night proved highly successful for the imported American Troyer factory-built cars, which provided the top three placegetters.

Pascoe previously raced V8 Dirt Modifieds before he moved into sedans.

However, judging by his performance in the State V8 Dirt Modified title it looked as though he had never been away from the category.

Pascoe was in a class of his own and was credited with the fastest lap of the 30-lap final when he was clocked at 13.480 seconds, equivalent to a speed of 106.8km/h.

Local hope Mark Robinson ran near the front of the field early before he was forced out with overheating problems.

Defending titleholder Phil McNamara had a title assault he would rather forget after he was involved in a spectacular crash early in the night during the heats.

Following hasty repairs by his crew, McNamara took his place in the field for the championship final but was taken out of the event early in another on-track incident.

Other main event winners on Saturday night were Michael English (four-cylinder sedans), Steve Quirk (street stockers), Jordan Biviano (junior sedans) and Scott Lasthorn (dwarf cars).
