KATHLEEN KINGSFORD threw a blender through a window at her boyfriend’s home after he flushed her cannabis stash down the loo, but then lied to police by falsely claiming he assaulted her.

Kingsford, 35, of Casino, pleaded guilty in Casino Local Court on Wednesday to assaulting her boyfriend at Ellangowan on January 9; possession of cannabis; recklessly destroying property; and making false representation resulting in a police investigation.

Police facts before the court stated the man found her cannabis supply and flushed it down the toilet.

During an argument that night Kingsford had thrown household items around the house including a tomato sauce bottle through the glass of a buffet unit causing it to shatter.

The angry woman then threw a blender through a window causing the glass to break before throwing a castiron bottle at her boyfriend, hitting his body. Kingsford also punched him several times.

However, when police were called she claimed he had assaulted her by punching her in the right eye and pulling her hair. Her boyfriend was arrested and taken into custody for three hours.

Police noticed she had red marks and swelling around her eye.

Four days later she admitted to police she had ‘banged her head in the ground’ to obtain her eye injury and made a false statement about him assaulting her.

She told police she paid $400 in Nimbin for the cannabis that had been flushed away.

Defence lawyer Ben Cochrane said the incident took place because the man had passionate views on whether there was cannabis in his house. He was also on parole.

“Quite rightly so. He would risk going to jail,” replied magistrate Robyn Denes.

Mr Cochrane said his client was a user of cannabis and a domestic argument ‘exploded’ when she realised her drugs went down the toilet.

She was now engaged in drug and alcohol counselling but had no prior convictions.

Ms Denes said she was troubled by the matter because it appeared to be out of character for Kingsford.

She ordered the woman be assessed by the Magistrates’ Early Referral into Treatment Program (MERIT). The case was adjourned to April 7 for sentence.
