PRIMARY school students were asked to leave their playing fields on Wednesday after a partially naked woman in an apartment block was seen straddling a window.

A woman straddles the sill of a window.

STUDENTS at St Augustine’s Primary School were reportedly asked to leave their playing fields yesterday after a partially naked woman in a nearby apartment block was seen straddling a window allegedly threatening to jump.

Emergency services were called to the Albany Street address about 2pm.

The woman, believed to be in her mid-20s, was spoken to by police negotiators and ultimately convinced to return to the apartment where she remained behind locked doors.

A procession of motorists slowed to watch as four police cars, two ambulances and one fire truck had gathered at the scene near the Coffs Harbour school.

The young woman, with slow and unstable movements, then shut the window and police were forced to communicate through the front door of the apartment.

As firefighters began setting up a ladder at the side of the building. the woman began brushing her hair and examining her hands.

By 2.20pm, police had talked the woman into sitting down so they could enter the residence through the front door.

She was taken by ambulance to Coffs Harbour Health Campus for treatment.
