THE North Coast Regional Algal Co-ordinating Committee (RACC) today issued a red alert
to advise the community to avoid contact with a blue-green algal bloom in the Wiangaree
Lagoon on the Summerland Way at Wiangaree.
RACC spokesperson, Brian Dodd, said recent testing by Kyogle Council had revealed
elevated counts of potentially toxic blue-green algae.
“The Red Alert means that all contact by human and animals should be avoided and the
community should be aware of the potential hazard if they utilise the water from the lagoon,”
Mr Dodd said.
