Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell and traders at Lismore Shopping Square yesterday teamed up to spell out the choice to the city’s residents as they battle to stem the flow of trolleys being dumped around the city.

The council said trolleys had been found dumped up to 6km from the nearest store.

They had been also found dumped in bushland, in creeks and in stormwater canals, where they could create problems during flooding.

Cr Dowell said residents could be fined $110 fordumping a trolley, or $452 for leaving one on a road.

On the other hand, a hotline where people can report abandoned trolleys is offering to hand out a $1000 prize each month to one lucky person calling them about lost trolleys from Woolworths, Coles or Big W.

The Trolley Tracker’s number is 1800 641 497.
