NORPA will kick off its 2010 season with a bang Friday night with a launch party at Lismore City Hall at 6pm – and everyone is invited.

The launch is a sneak preview into what NORPA has in store for the year ahead. It is also a great chance for those who enjoy live performance to show their support for arts in the region.

Join Lismore’s mayor, Jenny Dowell, SCU Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Lee and the NORPA team to celebrate what’s on the horizon, including the stunning visual production En Trance.

NORPA is one of the leading regional performing arts companies in Australia. It has earned this reputation by being at the forefront of the regional theatre movement throughout its 17-year history.

Since its establishment in 1993 NORPA has presented more than 200 productions, 26 of which were NORPA produced, including 14 original works and five productions that have toured nationally.

NORPA strives to deliver high-quality performing arts to the Northern Rivers. But what does that mean?

“It’s easiest to think of NORPA’s annual program like this,” NORPA artistic director, Julian Louis, says.

“We aim to make locally produced theatre that has a resonance both locally and nationally; and we bring in touring theatre that will connect with our regional audiences.

“NORPA’s artistic work is inspired by location and our process driven by interaction. The particular challenges in being a regionally based company have created an energised approach to theatre making. This has generated an artistic program that is adventurous yet accessible, connecting theatre, music and dance to the diverse audiences of the Northern Rivers.”

NORPA encourages artists of all disciplines to hear about some of the opportunities to get involved with the company.
