MORE than 200 people crammed into the Kyogle Memorial Hall last night for a public meeting on the Repco Rally.
And it seems there is a fairly even split on whether the event was good or bad for the region.
Last night’s meeting was hosted by the NSW Government’s rally review team, which is in town to talk with various stakeholders.
It aimed to provide a ‘peaceful and amicable forum to try and resolve some of the issues’, according to Homebush Motor Racing Authority chief executive Bryan Hardyman.
One small business owner who spoke said the rally had helped struggling businesses get through a tough time.
But anti-rally campaigner Peter Lanyon said there was too much talk about the ‘dollar signs’.
“How much are we, as ratepayers, actually paying for the rally? That’s what we need to ask ourselves,” he said.
Kyogle mayor Ross Brown confirmed the council supported the rally.
