THE good people of Lismore will be the first to hear Wil Anderson trial his new swag of jokes for 2010 when he appears at the Lismore City Hall for four shows next month.

He will then move to the coast for two shows at the Byron Bay Services Club.

And why did Wil choose the fair city of Lismore to limber up?

“I wanted a new venue to test out new material,” he told Pulse this week.

“In the past I’ve done much of the testing in small venues in Canberra. But my girlfriend is from Alstonville, so I thought it might be a good idea to try somewhere new while visiting somewhere we enjoy spending time.”

Wil warns punters not to expect a polished show, though they will get the opportunity of seeing how a comedy show comes together. That is why he is calling it A Work in Progress.

“The audience becomes part of the process,” he says.

“They shouldn’t come along if they want a slick, fully produced show. Sometimes the best stuff comes out of this type of situation – you put yourself on the spot and then you have to use your skills to work yourself out of it.

“You get to such an unfunny place that the adrenalin kicks in and then the brain starts to fire. You don’t quite know what is going to happen, but you know it can be a lot of fun.”

Wil has already made plans to have fun while he is in the area.

“We do all the normal touristy things when we are up that way,” he says. “Stuff like hanging out at the beach, eating at The Balcony and going to the Bangalow Markets.”
