Excited about their New Year’s Eve wedding at Caniaba today are Andrew Want, formerly of Lismore, and Libby Geihe, of Tenterfield.
NEW Year’s Eve is the perfect day for a wedding, according to a former North Coast couple who have taken over a family Caniaba property for their big event.
Award-winning Gold Coast jewellers Andrew Want and Libby Geihe were remarkably unstressed just one day out from their nuptials yesterday as they fine-tuned arrangements for 120 guests.
“We never usually get anything organised on New Year’s Eve, so it was a massive excuse to get married,” Ms Geihe said.
And massive it is. The bridal ‘car’ will be a polished prime mover from the family’s trucking business and the marque is the biggest they could hire – 32 metres by eight metres.
“We’ve even set up camping for 100 people, complete with solar showers,” Mr Want said, as he oversaw the seating arrangements in the huge marque – each table themed to a particular gemstone.
“Now I wish we had eloped to Las Vegas,” he laughed.
If their rings are any indication, this couple are in for a flamboyant future.
The two internationally-acclaimed jewellers have pulled out all the stops, designing symbolically matching rings that have been valued at $35,000.
Hers is based on the Chinese phoenix and includes 400 white and yellow diamonds set in titanium; while his is based on the Chinese dragon using 400 black diamonds set in 18-carat gold. They even have matching tattoos.
“In Chinese mythology the phoenix represents the female and the dragon represents the male – together they represent harmony and happiness,” Ms Geihe said.
