Spotted wobbegong shark.

AUTHORITIES have described an attack on a spotted wobbegong shark in the Cape Byron Marine Park as ‘senseless and unwarranted’.

Marine Park manager Andrew Page said the metre-long spotted wobbegong was found washed up on Suffolk Park beach recently with a spear through its head.

Wobbegong sharks are quite harmless, spending a lot of time on the seafloor.

People caught harming marine life in a sanctuary zone face an on-the-spot-fine of $500.
