Peter Garrett.
GREENS MP Ian Cohen is calling on Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett to look closely at two independent environmental reports that found the Repco Rally would threaten endangered species living along the rally route.
Mr Cohen said the rally's environmental study did not take into account the rally would be held during the breeding season of animals in the Mt Warning, Border Ranges and Toonumbar national parks.
He said Mr Garrett must look at reports by ecologists Dr Stephen Ambrose and Dr Mark Graham.
Mr Cohen said they found the rally would threaten endangered and vulnerable species, including the giant barred frog and spotted tail quoll.
“These animals are obviously going to be on the move during the breeding season and the original report didn't take that into account,” he said.
However, a Repco Rally Australia spokesman said the event would not pass through the Mt Warning, Border Ranges or Toonumbar national parks as claimed.
“It is difficult to make an informed review of the reports if, as stated, they are based on areas not traversed by the rally,” the spokesman said.
