Dads learn to get into a new routine

THE joys of bathing the baby and changing nappies were the hot topics during a gathering of dads in Bangalow last week.

The fathers got together for a reunion of graduates from a New and Expectant Dads Program, run by the Fatherhood Project at Bangalow Community Centre.

The project is dedicated to promoting fatherhood with the aim of getting dads actively engaged in their children's lives.

The New and Expectant Dads Program helps men into the role of being a dad.

“Fatherhood is the greatest initiation in a man's life,” Fatherhood Project program director Scott Longden said.

“Men have the desire to be a great dad, but a lot of them don't know how because they don't know what to do.

“We focus on providing information on parenting basics, practise the skill of baby holding and bathing, and nappy changing, and discuss how to make these a part of every dad's busy routine.”
