ACTRESS Farrah Fawcett has died after a long battle with cancer.
Aged 62, Fawcett's fight against cancer was captured in a documentary that showed her battle in wrenching detail and drew an estimated 8.9 million viewers for NBC.
'Farrah's Story' detailed the former Charlie's Angels star's treatment and hopes for recovery, following her through chemotherapy and other gruelling treatment. Fawcett was diagnosed in 2006 with anal cancer that spread to her liver.
Fawcett's video diary was initially intended for private viewing by family and friends, but was shared with a wider audience after the actress realised her story could inspire others.Actor Ryan O'Neal is shown in the documentary as a steady presence as the actress goes through highs and lows, although the two ended their long romantic relationship in the late 1990s.
O'Neal told People magazine he had talked to Fawcett through the night.
"She's now with her mother and sister and her God. I loved her with all my heart. I will miss her so very, very much."
Reports said Fawcett died in hospital surrounded by friends and family shortly before 2.30am AEST today.
