RESIDENTS across the Northern Rivers remain on high alert as heavy rain continues to fall on the already water-logged region.
Evacutations have been ordered in Lismore and Kyogle and the SES is on stand-by with the Bureau of Meteorology warning conditions may very well get worse before they get better.
At Tuntable Falls, a road bridge was washed away by the torrent, leaving a gaping hole in the road with several cars narrowly avoiding driving straight into the chasm.
Here is local resident Paul White's photos and description of the scene
...
"We at upper Tuntable Falls are officially trapped in as the whole bridge leading into the valley has been washed away in last nights thunderous storm.. 2 people almost drove straight into the hole that used to be a bridge.
"Now we are all wondering (150- 200 people) when we may be able to use our road again. We have dug a series of steps into the side of the bank beside the bridge so now we can walk out to the other side."

Other areas of the Northern Rivers were also badly affected.
