CANDICE GIFFORD has never missed Beef Week and that achievement should hold her in good stead when she vies for the event's highest accolade: Beef Week Queen.

At just 18 years old, the Casino pharmacy assistant is already a contest veteran having won the town's Miss Mini-Show Girl pageant at four years old.

She also took out the encouragement award for her rendition of a Kasey Chambers' song in the 2005 Beef Week talent quest.

Ms Gifford said she had always wanted to enter the Beef Week Queen contest.

“I saw the older girls doing it and thought it's a good chance to put back into the community,” she said.

As a Beef Week Queen entrant, Ms Gifford will be representing Angus breeders, a role for which she has been studying up.

“They're such a good, quiet and easy to handle breed,” she said.

And when it comes to judging, her knowledge of the breed will be tested, along with her knowledge about the local community.

She will be also judged on speech, deportment and etiquette.

The entrants will be required to attend Beef Week functions: The masquerade ball, where the winner will be announced; the race day; and the Beef Week parade.

Beef Week will be held from May 26 to June 2.
