Damian and Nikki Farrell at home 12 hours after baby Mylee-Rose was born on their bathroom floor. She is a new sister for Nalani, 4, and Jarrah, 2. Mr Farrell also has a child from a previous relationship.
DAMIAN FARRELL is on a hat-trick, but the father of four is pulling up stumps and getting the snip.
Mr Farrell took a 'classic catch' when his wife Nikki delivered their baby girl on the bathroom floor of their South Golden Beach home yesterday.
The scene was a repeat of the birth of their son, Jarrah, two years ago, born in the bathroom after a 45-minute labour, and before an ambulance could get there.
“We had gone to bed just before midnight when my wife said she had the feeling this will be the night,” the cricket fanatic said.
“I called a friend, Holly Shoar, who lives nearby, and asked her to look after the kids so we could go to Mullumbimby Hospital.”
By 1am, Mrs Farrell began to have contractions. “I didn't call the ambulance because she felt uncomfortable - she didn't want to be sitting in a car,” hubby said. But by 1.40am, Mrs Farrell was 'bearing down' and about to give birth.
“That's when I called the ambulance,” he said. “I saw the head crown and I held the baby's head and waited for the next contraction to push her shoulders through.”
Mr Farrell then, for the second time in his life, caught the baby as she was born.
“Mylee-Rose was born at 1.55am, the ambulance arrived at 2.13. They clamped the cord and I cut it,” he said.
Although primed for a hat-trick, Mr Farrell said he was off to the doctor for a 'snip' that would rule out delivering more of his children.
“I won't be having any more kids. I've got four and I'm 43. I'm pulling up stumps,” he said.
