EMPIRE VALE Primary School students are thrilled to have won the Picasso Cow Competition at The Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The senior students entered designs in the Dairy Australia-run competition, which provided 15 schools with the opportunity to paint a full-sized fiberglass cow sculpture that became part of an art exhibition.

The students' winning design was titled The Mooooseum of Milk Moustaches, with its key decorative feature being photographs of younger students with a range of cheeky milky top lips.

“The competition standard was extremely high as each of the 15 cows on exhibition were absolutely beautiful. We were so thrilled when Dairy Australia announced that we had taken out first prize! The judge shared with us that our creativity and use of photographs showing young children enjoying drinking milk, melted his heart. This will be a learning experience the students will never forget,” creative arts teacher Karen Hinrichsen said.

Many local businesses supported the school's travel costs to and from Sydney.

The winning Picasso Cow will be returning to The Northern Rivers in a few months after completing a promotional tour of agricultural shows.

On the cow's return the school will allow businesses who assisted with travel costs to exhibit the cow, allowing locals a chance to enjoy our local youth creativity.

“The win feels like a win for the whole area. There was input into the design by many of the students at our school and the whole community got behind us to get us to Sydney. We really appreciate the support,” the principal, Ms Bonita Avery, said.

The school also won a $3500 account with Rebel Sports, allowing the school to upgrade its sporting equipment.
