Seven injured in highway pile-up near Woodburn
A teenager with suspected spinal injuries was one of seven people hurt in a three-car crash on the Pacific Highway near Woodburn yesterday.
Six other people were also taken to hospital after the crash, which happened at 1.50pm.
It is believed the boy, 15, was travelling with his family from Banora Point at Tweed Heads.
Lismore paramedic Rolan Murcott said ambulance crews from Lismore, Evans Head and Maclean attended the accident scene.
“Ambulances took six of the injured people and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter took the young boy because he was the most critical.
“The mother of the boy had neck and chest injuries and the rest of the patients had varying degrees of injury.”
The highway was blocked in both directions for an hour-and-a-half, with cars at a standstill for 5km.
The crash was the latest in a busy few days for police and paramedics.
On Wednesday night, a Queensland woman in her mid-40s was trapped for an hour after a crash on Kyogle Road, about 8km out of Lismore.
She was travelling with her daughter when her car went over an embankment and rolled, crushing the roof.
At 12.15pm yesterday, a car carrying two women crashed into a tree on Main Arm Road, west of Mullumbimby.
Mr Murcott pleaded with drivers to take care on the roads.
“We just want people to drive with caution – there are so many cars on the road at the moment,” he said.
