Alamela Rowan.
ALAMELA ROWAN, of South Golden Beach, knows how to stand up for what she believes in.
After being bullied on Australia's Next Top Model she has thrown herself back into modelling with gusto.
Not only is she one of the 14 finalists in the Face of Byron this weekend, she will head to Sydney for the Miss Teen Australia final in November.
Alamela, 17, knows modelling is tough after experiencing the taunts of three contestants on the model reality show.
“Modelling isn't easy. You have to be fit and healthy and it's a lot of work,” she said.
Her father, Peter Rowan, said he totally supported her decision to keep modelling.
Mr Rowan home-schooled Alamela from age eight and described her as a strong, confident person who handled difficulties well.
He said the bullying to which Alamela was subjected on Top Model was 'a hard knock', but the support she had received made her stronger.
Alamela has used her experience to help others and she presented an anti-bullying program for the NSW Department of Education.
The winner of the Face of Byron will be announced on Sunday at the end of Byron Bay Fashion Week. Alamela can't wait.
“Modelling in the real world is nothing like Top Model,” she said.
