Main Arm Valley will be the first locality in the Byron Shire to officially declare their roads, lands and community CSG Free, joining the wider peoples’ movement of the Northern Rivers. In celebration, the Main Arm Valley CSG Free group are holding a community event on Saturday November 17th at Durrumbul Hall from 2.30pm.
In a recent survey the residents in Main Arm Valley were asked if they would like their roads and land declared Coal Seam Gas (CSG) Free. Of the 570 participants in the survey, 98% responded ‘Yes’!
Everyone in the wider Byron Shire area is welcome to come along and join in the celebration.
As part of the declaration day, residents are encouraged to be personally involved and participate in a handover ceremony where the community presents their road declarations to Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson.
As well as the ceremony, there will be:
* Guest Speakers: Nigel Stewart (Arakwal – Welcome to Country), George Wagener (Farmers Experience, Greenridge), Annie Kia (Building a Movement) and Patrick Halliday (Local Alternative Energy Co.)
