Women injured as car crashes into river
TWO women are in a stable condition after their car ran off the road and into the Richmond River South of Wardell.
Police on the scene said it appeared that just after 3pm the car, carrying the two women, veered off the Pacific Highway and became submerged in the water.
The two women were allegedly rescued by two witnesses.
Emergency services arrived on the scene while traffic was brought to an almost standstill.
The older women, aged around 40, was transferred to Lismore Base Hospital via ambulance, while the younger women, aged in her 20s, was taken via the Westpac Helicopter.
Police and towing services are now attempting to locate the car and remove it from the river.
NSW Fire and Rescue said there was no sign of oil or other pollutants in the water as a result of the crash.
