CAMERON Daddo is the latest to take to hills in The Sound of Music stage production.

The seasoned actor, who honed his craft starring in television dramas, has returned home for his latest role as Captain Von Trapp in the Rogers and Hammerstein classic.

Weekend catches up with Daddo before the opening of the Brisbane season to talk about his latest foray into music and writing in Saturday's Weekend Star.

Also inside, Aussie-born filmmaker Craig Gillespie brings to screen the greatest small-boat rescue in US history in the new film, The Finest Hours.

Autumn is here, so it's time to fire up the oven and get baking.

My Kitchen Rules stars Dan and Steph show you how to use overripe bananas, while the popular UK Hemsley sisters share a healthy twist on a traditional sponge cake.

Plus, find out what gluten-free beer surprises Weekend brew connoisseur Simon Irwin.
