TWO people were injured in a head-on collision on Bangalow Road this morning between Clunes and Bangalow about 6.30am.

Traffic was reduced to one lane while firefighters and emergency services cleared the wreckage and treated an oil spilt on the road about 2kms south of Friday Hut Road.

NSW Ambulance duty officer, Acting Inspector David Horseman said a 45-year-old man driving a ute was treated for suspected spinal injuries and transported to Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.

The other driver, a woman thought to be in her twenties, was treated for minor injuries and taken to Tweed Heads Hospital also in a stable condition.

First on the scene was an off-duty paramedic who provided initial first aid before a passing loaded ambulance assisted.

Units from Byron and Mullumbimby arrived shortly after.

Both lanes were re-opened about 7.45am though police have warned motorists to take extreme care in the wet and drive to the prevailing conditions.
