Whats On

Think a ute's a boy's toy? It was a woman's idea!

Brett Wortman

WHILE Lew Bandt, then a young designer from Geelong, may be credited with designing Ford's first ever ute, the impetus for the idea actually came from a Gippsland farmer's wife.

The woman requested a practical solution to her problems - a vehicle that could be taken to church on Sunday without its passengers getting wet, but a car that could also be used to take the pigs to market on a Monday.

Many of the ute owners entering this year's Casino truck show Ute Muster, aren't likely to let a pig near their beloved vehicles.

The utes will be parading with the trucks in the morning and will be on show from midday till dusk at the Primex Show Grounds.

Event co-ordinator Cherie Holdsworth said the muster added another element to the truck show.

"I think the ute enthusiasts have the same kind of energy as the truck enthusiasts, and people love showing their trucks and utes so it's a win-win situation," she said.

Entry is $5 per vehicle.
