THE hallowed halls of CERN in Geneva are about to become a little less mysterious for budding scientist Chris McRae.

The St Luke's Anglican School captain is one of just six Australian students chosen to be a part of the London International Youth Science Forum in August.

While at the forum Chris, whose main interest is in physics and engineering, will get the chance to visit CERN, the home of the Large Hadron Collider, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris and the Olympic village in London.

Chris said he was most looking forward to the visit to CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.

"I think because it's closest to the areas that I am most interested in."

Chris was hoping to study engineering at the University of Queensland next year but was not yet sure in which area he wanted to specialise.

"I think this is good because I'll get a taste of what it's really like."

Chris said he was not sure when his love of science developed.

"It's just so interesting, there are so many concepts out there and theories which people are only just working out," he said.

St Luke's head of science Robyn Deer said being selected to represent Australia at LIYSF was an honour.

"We have had one other student go in the past and they are now a successful neuroscientist," she said.
