RICHMOND police are appealing for information after a man was stabbed at Wardell on Friday night.

Richmond Local Area Command Sergeant Tom Kirk said a 26-year-old Wardell man was stabbed in the lower right abdomen at an oval near Wilson St between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

He took himself from the location of the stabbing to Ballina District Hospital for treatment and police were informed.

Officers believe four male "persons of interest" were involved in the attack, according to statements from the victim.

The man discharged himself from hospital on Saturday morning.

Police enquiries are continuing and they ask anyone with information to contact the Ballina Police Station on (02) 6681 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
