UPDATE 3.00PM: A young child was killed in a serious crash on the Bruxner Highway this afternoon.

A police media spokeswoman said a 2-year-old child died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The Bruxner Highway remains closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

The highway is expected to remain closed for some time while officers from the North Coast Crash Investigation Unit investigate the scene.

 

UPDATE 2.30PM:

POLICE have confirmed a person has been killed in a two-car crash on the Bruxner Highway east of Casino.

Lismore police sergeant Johnson confirmed there has been a person killed in the crash.

Eastbound motorists travelling towards Lismore are being diverted via East Street, Spring Grove Road and Caniaba Road.

Westbound motorists travelling from Lismore are being diverted into Caniaba Road, then into Spring Grove Road and East Street to Casino.

These diversions are not suitable for B-Doubles.

Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time.

UPDATE 2pm:

PARAMEDICS are treating the drivers of two vehicles involved in a serious crash on the Bruxner Highway east of Casino.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said paramedics were called to the Bruxner Highway east of Casino at 1:20pm after reports of a serious two car crash.

When they arrived paramedics found the driver of one car, a man in his 60's, and the 17-year-old woman driving the other vehicle suffering injuries.

They are being treated at the scene and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter is preparing to airlift one person to hospital.

Casino VRA, police and Fire and Rescue NSW are on the scene.

 

INITIAL: EMERGENCY services are rushing to the Bruxner Highway west of Lismore after reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

A NSW ambulance spokesperson confirmed paramedics had just arrived at the scene.

The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter is airborne from the Lismore helibase on the way to the crash.

Richmond Valley Council has stated the Bruxner Highway is closed from the Casino Roadhouse on East St to Lismore Airport.

The crash is at Irvington Wharf Road in the vicinity of Schiellers Road at Clovass.

There is a serious accident on the Bruxner Highway x Irvington Wharf Road, Casino. The Highway will be closed in both directions for some time.
