CENTAUR Primary School put its students through an intensive water safety program at the Laurie Lawrence Indoor Swim Centre in Tweed.

Mr Lawrence's daughter Kate, who manages the centre with her sister Jane, said the swim school provided Centaur's students with three lessons per week for three consecutive weeks.

"We find that the kids learn much quicker if we teach them through these intensive blocks.

"It's much better than just one lesson a week and speeds up the learning process.

"Some kids only get access to swimming lessons via the school and we believe water safety is important to every child.

"The more people we can help, the better," Ms Lawrence said.

The swim school definitely puts its money where its mouth is and will offer a free three-day intensive program to anyone who is interested.

The course will run next January 8-10 with sign-ups from starting December 12.

Mr Lawrence has been commissioned by the federal government to create a water safety syllabus for child care centres and is currently busy with the design of the program.

"Laurie feels very strongly about this and wants to get the message out to as many people as possible," Ms Lawrence said.
