BALLINA Shire Council general manager Paul Hickey has confirmed he declared a conflict of interest in relation to a junior surfing event at Lennox Head.

BALLINA Shire Council general manager Paul Hickey has confirmed he declared a conflict of interest in relation to the application from Le-Ba to run a junior surfing event at Lennox Head as soon as he learnt his friend, Steve Condon, was involved.

An article in yesterday's Northern Star stated that Mr Hickey said he did not have a conflict of interest.

But he in fact advised staff of the matter on April 16 and has not been directly involved in the application since then.

Le-Ba is intending to run the 2012 junior surfing contest at Lennox Head after Rusty pulled out of Gromfest, for this year only.

Both Le-Ba and Rusty are keen to run the event in future years, with the final decision on future events to be made by the elected Council.
