FOOTBALL: Despite winning just four of his 17 games in charge of Perth Glory as interim coach in the 2013-14 A-League season, Kenny Lowe was yesterday given the top job permanently for the next two seasons.

In making the announcement, Glory chief executive Jason Brewer said the club had conducted an extensive search for a head coach and Lowe was clearly the best fit.

"He is one of the most qualified coaches in the country, with his AFC Pro Licence, and he is by far the best youth development coach in Australia. Nobody knows the talent that we have in this state better than Kenny Lowe," Brewer said.

"Kenny's appointment comes after an extremely focused and intense process and I'm positive that we have made the right choice."

Brewer also said a host of changes would be made in the off-season after the Glory finished the season in eighth place, just two places above wooden spooner Melbourne Heart. They would be in the areas of strength and conditioning, player recruitment, coaching recruitment, player rights and player welfare, as well as in the medical department.

Lowe's appointment means a host of senior players, including Ryan Edwards, Adrian Zahra, Williams Gallas, Steven McGarry and Darvydas Sernas, will be moved on.
