Silvana Nero, Rev Fred Nile and Gianpiero and Rebekka Battista announce Mr Battista as the Christian Democratic Party candidate for Lismore in the upcoming state election at the Presbyterian Church.

IT has been reported that Lismore city councillor Gianpiero Battista will tonight be anointed as the Christian Democrat Party candidate for the state election.

The party's leader, Reverend Fred Nile, is in Lismore for meetings with Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell and Ballina mayor David Wright, and will also visit Rekindling the Spirit.

The Echonetdaily has reported that at 6.30pm, Rev Nile will announce Cr Battista's candidacy at the Lismore Presbyterian Church this evening.

In an interview with the Echonetdaily, Cr Battista said he expected criticism from the large gay and lesbian community in Lismore.

"I'm already copping flak from my brother who is gay. I love him but do I like the fact that he is gay? No. It doesn't mean I don't like the person but my belief is that it is not the right thing," Cr Battista told the Echonetdaily.
