UPDATE Thursday: POLICE have charged a former teacher at St John's College Woodlawn with a serious of sexual assaults.

Detective Inspector Cameron Lindsay said the alleged offences took place between 1967 and 1993.

A 74-year-old man was arrested at his home in Lismore yesterday and charged with 36 offences relating to the sexual and indecent assault of children.

Det Insp Lindsay said all of the alleged victims were boys and that at least some of the alleged assaults had taken place on the school grounds.

The investigation was known as Strike Force Golvo and officers at Richmond LAC had been investigating these matters for "quite some time".

"These are allegations that have been aired previously that have been subject to a long investigation," he said.

Given the alleged offences took place over such a long period, Det Insp Lindsay said police are keen to hear from anyone else who was at the school between 1967 and 1993 if they have further information that may be relevant.

"We'd like to appeal to students who attended the school who may have information of inappropriate behaviour... or for parents, teachers or other students to come forward and contact Crimestoppers or the Richmond LAC," he said.

The school was a boarding school for much of the time the alleged attacks happened.

The man was given conditional bail and will appear at Lismore Local Court on July 14.
