Jury accepts Facebook defence plea after death threat

A DEATH threat on Facebook has helped a man charged with attempted murder over a violent scissors attack at Main Arm in 2012 walk free after being found not guilty.

Dean Andrew Kenning, 26, faced Lismore District Court on two counts of cause grievous bodily harm with intent to murder, two counts of wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two counts of reckless wounding.

The charges related to an attack at a "Mayan End of the World" party on Peter "Kym" Jermey, then 46, and Eric Funnell, then 36, on December 21.

Evidence of suffering a serious puncture wound to his neck, after Kenning "slapped him in the throat" with a pair of surgical scissors attached to his hand, was given by Mr Jermey.

But Mr Kenning's barrister Ben Cochrane argued his client was acting in self defence after Mr Jermey had previously threatened to kill his client.

Under cross-examination by Mr Cochrane, Mr Jermey told the jury he was 100% sure he didn't threaten to kill Kenning in a Facebook post.

Mr Cochrane then produced a computer screen shot of Kenning's sister Christie's Facebook account with a threatening message.

"Dean is a dead man walking," was part of the post from the account of Kym Jermey, which Mr Jermey then admitted to.

Yesterday the jury of 12 handed down a not guilty verdict.
